The foundations of Israel’s gov't harbor anti-Zionist and anti-democratic forces

Dishonoring Holocaust Remembrance Day

Leading up to Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, which Israeli and Diaspora Jewish communities are marking today, the ultra-Orthodox Yated Ne'eman newspaper chose to highlight their theological linking between the State of Israel and worldwide growing anti-Semitism.

Nazi Israel

What might otherwise have been dismissed as the fundamentalist rantings of an extremist religious sect cannot be dismissed so lightly. Yated Ne'eman is the official daily newspaper of the ultra-Orthodox Degel HaTorah party, which is an important partner in Israel's government coalition, and whose leader controls the powerful Knesset Finance Committee. Once again, the cynical nature of Israeli politics is demonstrating itself. Within the very foundations of Israel’s self-declared proud Zionist national government, there lie forces who reject the legitimacy of Zionism and democracy. This truth emerges on occasion (see below regarding Religious Services Minister Azoulay putting the rulings of his rabbinic mentors above Israel's laws, courts and government), but it is particularly painful when on Yom HaShoah the modern State of Israel is equated with rising international antisemitism.

The Yated Ne'eman editorial included the following gems:

""The Israeli experiment to uproot Judaism from the Jewish people is uprooting the ability of the Jewish people to confront its detractors. The local assimilation... the offenses of dwarfing the impact of Jewish law on the life of the people increase antisemitism throughout the world; and no political, diplomatic declarations, nor demonstrations, nor protestations will help...
The natural state of the Jewish people is exile! Its normalcy is within the pressure cooker of hatred and persecution... The state of Israel, which was founded to solve the problem of antisemitism has become the major accelerator of antisemitism.
The natural state of the Jewish people is exile! Its normalcy is within the pressure cooker of hatred and persecution... The state of Israel, which was founded to solve the problem of antisemitism has become the major accelerator of antisemitism. The Jews of the world suffer not because of their religion, but because of the State of Israel and its policies... the State of Israel will not resolve antisemitism and its manifestations. On the contrary, in its attempts to destabilize authentic Jewish life, in its undermining of religious Jewish requirements of family law, in its harming of the sanctity of the Temple site, and in its trying to hurt the students of Torah, it causes the horrific (antisemitic) pronouncements heard recently. The spiritual omissions carried out here threaten Jewish communities everywhere..."
