The Likud is certainly no longer the “National Liberal Party.”
The Women of the Wall want to destroy the Holy of Holies?! Really?!
Likud MK Miri Regev's campaign clip illustrates the willingness to embrace ultra-Orthodox doctrines which conflict with the foundations of Western democracy, and which are contrary to the will of the majority of the public who seek to advance freedom of religion and conscience in Israel.

Campaign clip by Likud MK Miri Regev: “Destroying our Holy of Holies”
Here (LINK 1, LINK 2) is an excerpt from a campaign clip for primaries in the Likud party, from July 11, 2022, by MK Miri Regev [a senior leader of the Likud party and former Minister of Transportation].
The clip shows how far the Likud has strayed from the legacy of Jabotinsky and from its identity as the “National Liberal Party.” The clip illustrates the willingness to embrace ultra-Orthodox doctrines which conflict with the foundations of Western democracy, and which are contrary to the will of the majority of the public who seek to advance freedom of religion and conscience in Israel.
This position represents a head-on collision with Diaspora Jews and with modern Orthodox/Zionist Jewry, and not just with Reform or Conservative Judaism. This interpretation of the identity of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state is a threat both to Israel and to the Jewish people.
TRANSLATION:
“…They let women with Torah scrolls enter the Western Wall plaza!
They want a state that belongs to all its citizens equally!
They want to void the very fact that we are Jewish!
To turn the Western Wall into a Reform Wall!
This will not happen!
I call [Minister of Religious Services, Yamina] Matan Kahana a Hellenistic Jew (following a foreign culture)
Because what he going to do with the Western Wall compromise Is a disaster!
2000 years of exile
Newspaper heading: “Kahana re: Western Wall compromise: the Wall must remain a national symbol and be a place above all conflicts”
They have hurt the Jewish character [of the country]
[Speaking from Knesset podium]:
I have no intention of letting you or your Hellenistic government destroy our Holy of Holies
[slide]: That is precisely why you should vote Miri Regev…”
